The gazelle leather Bible contains 26 pages with texts and illustrations of the crucifixion of Jesus and is believed to date from the early Christian period of the 1st century AD.
According to the Turkish state news channel TRT Haber, the Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime teams of the Provincial Gendarmerie Command had information that three suspects were looking for buyers to sell the historic piece.
The suspects were caught trading the Bible for $ 13 million. The object was seized during the search carried out on the individuals’ cars.
The Bible is under safekeeping while the investigation initiated by order of the Kirikkale Attorney General continues.
